We Used a small Electric heater thermostat controlled to maintain – Our Birthing Process was:

  • Move into a bedroom – raised the temp to 80 Degrees
  • Placed whelping Box – We purchased a plastic whelping box / with 8-10 inch solid sides
  • Put the whelping box in the closet – helps the mother feel secure and calm
  • Keep onlookers/children/ other pets out to reduce stress
  • Do Not use a cage for birth – a metal floor pan will suck the heat right out of the puppies
  • Puppies are tiny and like to crawl, they will get stuck in cage wire sides
  • Change to dry bedding right after birth
  • Weigh puppies – they will gain weight fast – If you find a puppy not gaining weight – there is a feeding Problem for you to solve.
